A parent’s perspective…
As parents, when it comes to nutrition, we can face a blind spot. Believe me, I was one mom that had a blind spot. I was losing the food battle with my 3 children. I worked so hard to offer to them what I call a rainbow diet. Because I have a professional chef's degree and love to cook, I thought getting my kids to eat well would be easy. Boy, was I wrong! I was so frustrated when they just wouldn’t eat all the vegetables I served up. In frustration, I found myself just doing what was easy, giving into the chips and dips and unhealthy convenience foods all the while knowing in my heart this wasn't the best I could be doing.
My turning point was when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and executive functioning with ADHD. A typical pre-teen, he did not want breakfast. All I could get into him was a waffle with sticky syrup or a sugary cereal at best. I knew this was not good enough, but I didn't know what else to do. I had an enormous amount of empathy for his struggle to learn and keep up. It was painful to watch him wrestle with this diagnosis. I was looking for a solution when Juice Plus+ was introduced to me.
I enrolled my son in the Healthy Starts for Families program and in 6 months I was able to wean my son off of his ADHD medication for good. His teacher told me that my son was much more focused in school and asked me what I was doing differently.
Looking back at those years, I want other parents to have this tool to get their children's health snowballed in the right direction so they can have their best shot at learning and peak performance.
